Traditional
Karate Center (TKFC) was founded by Sensei George Braynen in 1993.
Sensei Braynen, 6th Degree Black Belt and Head Instructor for Japan
Karate-Do Ryobu-Kai Bahamas, began his martial arts training in 1977
in Shotokan Karate and Kobudo under Sensei Arnold Farquharson. He
also trained extensively under Kyoshi Tomosaburo Okano, a direct student
of Grand Master Gichin Funakoshi and creator of the Shotokan style
of karate. In 1994 Sensei Braynen began training under Kiyoshi
Yamazaki Sensei, Chief Instructor and International Director for
Japan Karate-Do Ryobu-Kai outside of Japan. Sensei Braynen was a member
of the first Bahamas Synchronized Kata Team to bring home a bronze
medal at the 1988 Pan American Games.
Since then he
has trained and coached the first Junior Synchronized Kata Team
to compete outside of the Bahamas and brought home the gold at the
2nd Annual Junior Karate International Championships in 1996. Sensei
Braynen also served as President of the Bahamas Karate Federation
from 1996-2002, 3rd Vice-President of the Central American and Caribbean
Confederation for Karate (CCCK) and is a Pan American Karate Federation
Referee Judge.
